Registers

Surveying Authorities are now required to keep electronic registers of all current applications for Definitive Map Modification Orders under Section 53 (5) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (53B), and also all Deposits of Statements, Maps and Declarations under Section 31 (6) of the Highways Act 1980 (31A).

the North York Moors National Park Authority acts as a Surveying Authority as it has responsibility for the Definitive Map for the parts of its area which lie within the county of North Yorkshire and the Borough of Redcar & Cleveland respectively.

The registers (both paper and electronic versions) are also available for public inspection at the Access and Rights of Way Section Office at the Authority's Head Office in Helmsley between normal office working hours (8:30am – 5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am – 4.30pm Friday). Please contact the office on 01439 770657 to arrange an appointment before arrival to ensure a member of staff is available to help.

A copy of any of the particulars contained in the register can be taken by or for any person who requests a copy in person at the Access and Rights of Way Office for which there may be a reasonable charge depending on amount required.

For all enquiries about the Public Rights of Way Registers, including Definitive Map Modification Orders and Section 31(6) Deposits please contact Karl Gerhardsen (Recreation & Access Officer).
